Things You Will Love to Do in Siem Reap, Cambodia

Are you a traveler who wants to see the beautiful colors of our planet? If yes, you are just like me. I just can’t tolerate the idea of not seeing any place other than your city and country when you have so many years to spend on earth. So, let me share my experience with you of visiting one of the best cities in the world. I am talking about Siem Reap, Cambodia, a city that can often make you think you are in China. Siem Reap offers you not just great places, but also some awesome activities. Let me tell you the five best things you can do in Siem reap, Cambodia.

Get a Bird’s Eye View on a Microlight

The first thing you want to do is to get a bird’s eye view of this beautiful scenic city. Not only will it give you the opportunity to admire the beauty of the city but also fill your life with some adventure. A microlight is a cross between a small plane and a glider. You get to sit behind the pilot on a three-wheeled buggy that flies more than thousand feet high in the air at speeds of 60mph and a little more. Your flight will last you around 60 minutes to 90 minutes usually. Water bodies, temples, trekking tracks, etc. you get to see them all on your microlight tour.

The best thing about these tours is that they are refreshing and you can grab the opportunity to enjoy one at any time of the day on any day of the week. In some cases, you can even tell the places that you specifically want to see on your trip.

Get Cozy with Fish at a Spa

You find such spas in Siem Reap, but not in most other places of the world. It does not matter if you are a man or a woman, you need some pampering time after all. However, this experience is going to be unique for you. You won’t have to lie down in in a big seat to get a pedicure here. In fact, no humans will be attending you here. In the fish spa, you get your pedicure from fish. Yes, that’s right, and it is going to be one of the most comforting experiences of your life. So, you must have seen large groups of fish gathering around their prey in ocean waters.

They will do the same, but in this case, they will eat away the dead skin cells on your feet. It is strangely relaxing yet extremely useful. They will make your feet appear like new again. To tell you the truth, these few hours of getting the pedicure were the most precious hours of my time in Siem Reap. Do you know why? I choose to go there after a long hike. I tried to think the fish for the great pedicure, but I didn’t think they cared.

Be Taken Away by the Cambodian Circus

You must have seen humans do a lot of crazy stuff on Youtube videos and TV. However, have you ever had the experience of seeing humans reach their extremes in real life? If not, now is your chance to do it. The best thing about this circus in Siem Reap is that it enlightens you a lot about the country’s history in addition to the many acrobatic miracles the amazing individuals perform in front of you. You are going to get lost in the awe of their resilience, agility, strength, and boldness.

Usually, you will only see young faces performing all the moves in the circus. This pure entertainment will last you around 60 minutes. S

Step into the Villages on Water

The world loves to talk about Venice and wonders how a city could be built inside water. However, I was sure that the counterpart of Venice had to be there in some other country of the world too. I was right! In fact, the experience of being in the floating villages of Siem Reap is quite an experience in itself. These villages are located inside the famous Tonle Sap Lake. What I loved about these villages is the tradition that still breathes in them. All the four villages that you will get to from Siem Reap boast homes made of wood and hay. They literally float on water, even the schools that children go to. The waterways that pass through these villages are quite broad.

Behold the Apsara Dance

Can you ever complete a trip to Siem Reap without watching this dance? It has been happening in this region for hundreds of years. These beautiful girls wear huge traditional crowns on their heads, wear golden accessories and traditional dresses. They perform the dance on traditional tunes. Their movements are usually slow and involve a lot of hand, feet, and eye movement. If you want to get the most out of your viewing of the apsara dance, you might pack your bags and visit Divine Sala. You can watch these real royal-supported dancers on Sundays and Wednesdays.

You will be blown away by the performance and the feel you get while watching it in Divine Sala. The performances that happen in the urban region of the city are often distracting because of all the urban life around you. However, if you are short on time, you can watch the performance in the city. I just don’t want you to miss it just because you could not get to Divine Sala on time.

Final Thoughts

The list of things that you can do in Siem Reap does not end here. There is much more that this city can offer. The more time you spend here, the more you will discover new things. Other great places that you can visit if you are staying in Siem Reap for longer include Kulen Natural Trails, Banteay Srey, the Landmine Museum, etc. I always recommend that you make a local friend who can tell you the pros and cons of all the places and activities mentioned above.
